<< Back The logical inside-to-outside interface The challenge More and more advanced equipment for telecommunications and ICT is being added to KPN Telecom's infrastructure. Connections that were good enough for 'normal' telephones are now proving inadequate for today's complex systems. Attema Kunststof & Techniek was asked to develop a solution for the node between 'inside' and 'outside' lines, one that not only addresses current standards in the field of signal processing and installation technology with due consideration but also takes account of future developments in cable technology. The approach The ISRA box was prepared for glass fibre, while connectors for copper and glass fibre links were used for optimum compatibility with all current and future cabling systems. The expertise Attema Kunststof & Techniek has in optical fibre technology allowed effortless and foolproof finishing of the delicate glass fibres in the box. The connection techniques opted for by Attema Kunststof & Techniek are a good alternative to expensive, moisture-repellent gels, so that the cost price could be kept down. The uncomplicated assembly yielded a further saving. All components have been placed on a single printed circuit board. Printed circuit board and glass fibre connector easily click into the plastic housing and no special tools are needed to install the ISRA box. The concept was first tested using models made by Attema Kunststof & Techniek using various Rapid Prototyping techniques. On the basis of these tests, final modifications were then made to the design. Attema Kunststof & Techniek purchases the components and then produces and assembles the ISRA box. The result ![]() The ISRA box is functionally designed to keep the contacts as clean as possible. Moreover, the design enhances the client's quality image. Together with the client, safety measures have been taken to ensure that the ISRA box can only be opened by qualified technicians using certified keys. The packaging has been perfectly tailored to all stages of the process, which is why the ISRA boxes come in special small-sized packs with an outer box. |
